FREIRIAN MEETINGS

IX edition of Freirian Seminary by INESA

Não é no silêncio que os homens se fazem,
mas na palavra, no trabalho, na ação-reflexão.
Paulo Freire

The Degree Course in Pedagogy of Instituto de Ensino Superior Santo Antônio (INESA) – Superior Institute of Santo Antônio – held in 2015 its IX Freirian Seminary with the purpose of think about Paulo Freire’s thoughts and his proposal of autonomy and personal development.

The seminary, held at Joinville – SC on 17th, 18th and 19th June, promoted thoughts about the importance of a teacher formation, understood as one of the responsible for social transformation. Transformation that has its beginnings with attitudes and proposals experienced and put in practice since the period of childhood, mediated by teachers/educators.

Even Paulo Freire’s work had been, in its majority, focused in young and adults education, his methodology is absolutely adjustable in any level of education and it contributes in a significant way for formation of educators of any level or any region, in face of any reality, because it has as base a simple and effective practice to the teaching-learning process in which is applied four steps for its success. They are: 1. Reading the world; 2. Sharing the read world; 3. The education as and act of production and reconstruction of knowledge; ans 4. The education as a practice of liberty.

This way, his memory and his teachings were sedimented by an intrinsic dialectic to the methodology of the event in which the exchange of information and of experiences translate the knowledge in a simple way as regards to interdisciplinary academic practice as well as to development of a critical thinking.

From the freirian thought (1996): “Nobody educates anybody, nobody educates themselves, men educate each other, mediated by the world”, the teachers collective has organized themselves in order to produce researcher in groups. They were announced over the discussions tables and over demonstratives and practical workshops.

During the event, the Portuguese Language Teacher from the Degree course in Pedagogy, Viviane Siqueira, brought a text of her own authorship:

(Literal translation)

Paulo Freire…

The most famous Brazilian educator,
with international action and recognition
is the thinker that said
that school is made from people
it is the place where you make friends
where you learn to read the world
in order to transform it!

Educator developer of minds
that didn’t settle down
when he realized he were not finished, (as all men are)
neither let others settle down,
creativity, knowledge and critical thoughts
he wanted to arouse,
in order to each human being, regardless their origin,
could become subjects of their own story,
and could choose their own path,
knowing that each individual choice
has a collective reflection.

Paulo Freire built history
and let a little brick for each teacher,
that, as soon as understand the relation between education
and the social change, can build
a more solidarity and fairer
world
